Professional Tile Demolition in Gallatin
Tile removal is one of the hardest and dustiest parts of any remodel. Ceramic and porcelain tile is bonded tightly with thinset, some older floors sit on a thick mortar bed, and every tile that breaks creates sharp pieces and fine dust. Removing it the right way protects your subfloor and the rest of your home.
We remove tile from floors, walls, backsplashes, showers, tub surrounds, fireplaces and countertops, along with the thinset, backer board or mortar bed underneath. We use the right tools for each surface and keep dust contained with plastic barriers and vacuum-assisted equipment.
How Your Tile Demolition Project Works
Assess the install
We check how the tile was installed (thinset over backer board, over concrete or on a mortar bed) because that determines the tools and time needed.
Containment
The room is sealed with plastic, vents are covered and floors along our path are protected.
Removal
Tile is broken out with rotary hammers and scrapers, working in sections and bagging debris as we go.
Surface prep
Remaining thinset is scraped or ground down so your installer has a flat surface. Damaged backer board or subfloor is pointed out.
Clean finish
Debris is hauled away and the room is HEPA-vacuumed.
How to Prepare
- Remove furniture, rugs and items from the room
- Let us know what's going down next, since tile, wood and LVP each need different prep
- Remove toilets and appliances, or let us do it
- Plan to stay out of the area during removal because it's loud
What Affects the Price
Tile removal is priced by square footage and depends on the type of tile, what it's bonded to, whether there's a mortar bed, how flat the surface needs to be for the next flooring, and protection and haul-away needs. Mortar-bed tile takes far more work than tile on backer board.
Tile Demolition FAQ
Can you remove tile from a concrete slab?
Yes. Tile on concrete is removed and the thinset is ground down so the slab is ready for new flooring.
Will removing tile damage my subfloor?
We work carefully to protect it. Sometimes old installs bonded tile directly to plywood, and some damage can't be avoided. We'll tell you what we find.
How much dust does tile removal make?
It's a dusty job, which is why we use plastic containment and vacuum-assisted tools to keep it in the work area.
